My Story
November 2020, in the thick of the pandemic, I went from being a senior-level individual contributor on a large team, to the first hire outside the founding team at a high-growth startup, choosing to take on the challenge of building the design function from the ground up, ensuring that the team we built cultivated a human-centered perspective towards our work, as well as growing and training a team of designers.
The last 4+ years of my career as a leader at TrustCloud have been thrilling, scary and energizing. I have learned to be a better designer, collaborator and leader as a result of taking on the daunting task of shouldering an immense amount of responsibility in a very short amount of time. If I could go back in time, I wouldn’t change a thing. The kind of growth I have experienced is exponential, and there are a few things I have learned in the process.
- My curiosity is a superpower
- Saying “yes” as often as possible changes the game, and it is okay to say “I don’t know yet”
- I have learned as much or more from my team of designers, as I have helped them learn
- Learning how to be direct while being respectful and kind can build unexpected bridges
- Laser focus on the outcome I want to enable really cuts out the noise and brings clarity
- I own my mistakes, and assess how I can avoid making the same mistake a second time
- Sharing ideas early is the best way to know if they’re viable
- I know many people who are amazing at what they do, and I take advantage of their perspective as often as I can
- Celebrate the small wins, as often as possible
- Progress is clearly visible only when you look back
Before TrustCloud, I had the good fortune to work alongside some amazing people at Adobe, Magento, RackSpace etc. Some of those people have become friends, and I rely on them for counsel and inspiration.
I absolutely love the craft of design in all its myriad forms, and I find that consuming work across different mediums of expression informs my work in nuanced and surprising ways.
I am always energized by the possibility of further growth and expansion. My goal is to learn and evolve as consistently as possible and bring my best self to every opportunity.
In my spare time, I engage in performing dance, music and theater. I believe that multiple creative outlets are crucial to all round creative development. I am committed to giving back to the community and supporting causes I am invested in, by sharing my professional skills as well as my time. I treasure time with friends and family. I love to travel, eat good food, care for my many plants, read, and watch films.
